Whether it be vacuuming the capets, cleaning the windows, dusting and polishing, or sweeping the floors, cleaning your home can be an absolute chore. However, if it’s not something you relish doing yourself, because you don’t have the time or the inclination, help is at hand.

Every city is likely to  have a number of specialist and dedicated domestic cleaners. These companies employ members of staff who simply remove the problems surrounding cleaning (generally a lack of time, or more likely a lack of willingness to perform the jobs at hand). They are experts at bringing your house back to its best – even after you and the kids have trashed it, turning it into somthing that resembles a tip. The staff they employ have normally been vetted to ensure that they are reliable ad trustworthy, as well as being more than capable of cleaning your home within a short space of time. The companies generally offer cleaning as and when you need it – maybe once a week, once a fortnight of just once a month – cleaning companies are flexible enough to help you when you need it most.

What can I use a domestic cleaner for?

It may be a one-off clean that your home requires; typically after a party or prior to new tenants moving into a rented home (or just as likely, moving out). You may want to clean the carpets of your home and if you do, we would always recommend that you employ the services of a dedicated carpet cleaning service – again, a service  that is normally performed by specialist, expert companies who come armed with the correct tools and all  the know-how required to bring your carpets and upholstery back to new. But it’s not just carpets that these companies are able to clean. They also generally offer an upholstery, curtain and/or leather furniture cleaning service.

But it’s not just standard cleaning tasks that these professional cleaners do. Many will offer additional services, such as deep cleaning ovens or range cookers. This is an area of expertise and the companies who offer such services do so because they have the right materials (often quite caustic or potentially dangerous cleaning products) and employ the correct techniques to bring your oven, hob or range cooker back to its very best.

How much can I expect to pay?

The cost of hiring a professional cleaning company varies considerably. Factors such as the amount of competition in the area, the size of the property, the location and experience as well as the size of the company will determine just how much each company will want to charge you. You can look in the range of £9 – £18 per hour though (around the time of writing – 2011). However, don’t be fooled into thinking that the price determines the quality of the job the cleaning company will do. Always try and ask for references, speak to the references offered and contact 2 or 3 companies to get a good understanding of how good they are.
