Locksmith Leeds

If you lock yourself out of your home, office of car, you can call on the services of a locksmith. Locksmiths, as the name suggests, are experts when it comes to all things locks. They can often (and quickly) get you in, even if you’re unable to.

The oldest known lock is believed to be around approximately 4,000 years old and is of Egyptian origin – so locksmithing is not a new trade. It is however, a specialist one that requires skill, know-how and experience.

Originally, a locksmith would actually manufacture locks, creating simple mechanisms which used keys to lock and unlock them. Of course, most locks are made my machine these days, so a locksmith has changed from manufacturing locks and has become an expert at picking them.

Using a set of lock picking tools, a locksmith will work the lock to get it to open. Once done so, if you have lost your keys, they will be able to replace the locks they have just picked for you. As your locksmith when you make your initial call to them and they can bring along the new lock for you, then fit it whilst they are there.

Your locksmith will normally be able to get into any kind of lock. They can release padlocks, window locks, get into a locked car and crack safes (legally, of course).

Many locksmiths offer a full 24 hour emergency locksmith service, meaning they’re available no matter what time of the day or night you need them. One thing to note though, is that if you do call out your local locksmith at 3am on a cold, winters Sunday morning, expect to pay a premium (in the form of a call out charge). During normal working hours though, they’re unlikely to charge you any call out fee, but of course, it’s wise to ask them if they are going to charge you for coming out when you first speak to them.

Also, when you speak on the phone, check to see if your local locksmith is a member of the Master Locksmith Association. They are the governing body for the industry and, describe themselves as “A not-for-profit trade association established in 1958, the MLA licenses its approved locksmith companies through strict vetting and regular inspections, in order to ensure quality of service and provide peace of mind to the end customer looking for a high quality locksmith.”
