Tyres and exhausts

Even if you are not a car owner, you undoubtedly know how important a car’s tyres and exhaust systems are. If you are a car owner, you probably only think about your vehicle’s rims or wheels when there is a problem – when you find that tyre is flat or it has a puncture. With the car’s exhaust pipe being out of sight, it is typically out of mind, however, if there is a hole in the silencer – the noise emitted by the vehicle’s malfunctioning exhaust system will be heard (for miles)!

Each component, the tyres and the exhaust are equally important. If the tyres do not have the right pressure, the vehicle is unable to perform correctly. Road handling will be severely affected by worn or under or over inflated tyres. In addition, a worn tread is very dangerous as it will take longer for the motorcar to come to a stop when braking. What’s more, if the road’s surface and wet or smooth, worn tyres will cause the vehicle to slide over the slick surface.

An exhaust system is designed to carry all the vehicle fumes to the rear of the vehicle. A manifold serves as a funnel and it collect the gases which are emitted by the engine’s cylinders; these toxic and lethal gases are then released through a single opening, which is known as the front pipe. At the centre of the system, is the silencer and this component reduces the noise of the vehicle. If a single component of the exhaust does not work correctly, the process of removing and releasing the poisonous gases through a single pipe at the back of the vehicle will be hampered.

Owing to the important roles which both these components play, it is important to have the tread of tyres checked regularly and the car’s wheels must be inspected for any signs of wear and tear. An exhaust and tyre specialist is able to conduct a thorough check on both items.
