Skip Hire
At sometime, every householder is going to want to rid themselves of household clutter – the stuff that somehow just builds up over the years which is of no discernible use or is simply just past its best. It usually works its way up into the attic or loft – or gathers dust in the spare room.
The ideal solution (rather than trying to cram the car full to bursting point) is to use the services of your local skip hire firm. Hiring a skip means that you can remove the junk from your house and put it in a huge, purpose-built metal container, leaving it for someone else to take away.
But of course, it’s not just household junk that gets put into skips. They are designed to allow a massive array of things to be removed and taken to a waste disposal or landfill site.
Usually yellow in colour (they need to be as many of them spend a long time on road sides, being a potential hazard to traffic and cyclists), skips are simply big metal containers which can be hired for the sole purpose of disposing of waste. They come in a variety of sizes and are purpose-built to carry everything from household clutter (the junk mentioned above), soil, building and construction site waste, timber, scrap metal, and more. In fact, there’s little that you can’t drop into a skip (there have even been scrapped cars seen in some skips). However, once filled, it is the responsibility of the skip hire firm to dispose of your rubbish – so many will state what can and can’t be dropped into the skip they hire to you – certainly when it comes to hazardous waste (acids, asbestos etc).
In addition to the size of the skip you hire, the cost of hiring a skip varies from city to city and from county to county. You may also find that, in addition to the cost of a skip, you may need to pay your local council a permit charge – an additional fee to allow you to leave the skip on council property (i.e. the road). The best thing to do is speak to your local skip hire firm and see if they can organise the permit for you. Most will (it is worth noting that they only collect fees for the council. None will make an admin charge for doing so).
You may want to check to see if your local sip hire firm is a member of the National Skip Hire Association – the industry’s governing body. See their website for more information.
